Tips for using the website

1. Searching the site

2. Site Safety and Security warnings

3. Broken Links

4. Refresh Page to see latest version.

1. Searching the site
This website does not include a search facility . If you do want to search this site you can use the "site-specific search" facility in Google just to search for topics on this site.

For example, if you want to find anything that has been said on this site about "Joe Rose"
just type in the Google search box

site:http://wlbhs.x10host.com/ Joe Rose

Google will limit its search just to this website and give you the links to any mention of "Joe Rose "
Other search engines have similar facilities but the format may vary

2. Site Safety & Security warnings

The site now has a security certificate, as denoted by the prefix https:// to the URL.
Previously some web browsers may have flagged up a security warning. This is no longer an issue.

3. Broken Links

N.B. I have noticed recently that some external links which appear to be broken when you just <Left click> on them will in fact open if you <Rt Click> on the link then choose < open link in a new window >. An example is the link to old boy Sir Jeff Benson.

This site is has been online for a long time and I am aware that many of the hyperlinks to content on the web are now broken; i.e. Clicking on the link results in "404 error Page not Found" or similar.

We used to say that today's news is tomorrow's fish and chip wrapping but when it comes to the internet, information is even more ephemeral than newsprint, i.e. links to internet information are very short-lived. ( average lifetime is 100 days).
I intend to review the site links over the next few months but I am not deleting broken links in the meantime.

It is possible that some of the information in the broken links is still accessible by using the internet archive "Wayback Machine" which can be found here

WebArchive.org

To get the URL (ie full web address of the missing web page, which always starts http:// or https://)

RIGHT CLICK on the highlighted link in WLBHS website.
Then select COPY from the pop-up menu.
Paste the URL in the box in the Wayback machine

For more information on how to use the Wayback Machine see videos on You Tube or Bing
Eg How to use the Wayback Machine - Bing video

4. Refresh Page to see the latest version.

If you revisit a web page your computer may be showing you a cached copy of the page from your last visit. If the page has been updated since your last visit you may not be seeing the new content. To make sure you are viewing the latest version of any page you want to view just Click Right Mouse button then select Refresh and/or Refresh Frame from the pop-up menu. Or in Windows press <CTRL> <F5> keys.
